Window shopping – who doesn’t love it? Especially when you know you need a winter coat, and you pass by all those stores with winter coats in the front display. Well in a couple of weeks the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association will have some of the most unique remodels and new construction homes available for some window shopping. As strange as it sounds, it’s one of our family’s favorite events on the Outer Banks!
What’s It All About?
Every year the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association selects between 12 and 20 homes to be in the Parade of Homes program. This year there are 17 homes, as far south as S Nags Head and as far north as Corolla Light. So for starters, you get to see the Outer Banks and experience a drive during “shoulder” season, when things aren’t as busy. Second, you get to visit each of the 17 homes and vote on which homes you think are standouts in each category. Third, the weather is usually beautiful during this time of year so even though you may be walking up and down stairs or driveways it actually feels nice to be outside.
What Can I Expect to See?
Sometimes you walk into a house and you learn about the new technology that builders are putting in new construction homes. As a Coldwell Banker Smart Home certified broker this is always interesting to me. Sometimes you see a remodeling job done by a contractor and you want that contractor to visit your home next! There are usually owners in homes that aren’t on the market who greet guests and offer a background story on the home. For homes that are on the market you can find Realtors inside who can broker a deal if a home speaks to you.
It’s also a great opportunity to meet and talk with builders here on the Outer Banks who might be the right choice for your next remodel or construction project. So come check out what our local builders can do, chat with owners and find out some interesting construction stories, and whether you find a home that speaks to you or not, at least spend a little time in a low-traffic time of year in beautiful weather enjoying the salt air on the OBX.
And who knows, maybe a home you pass by while window shopping ends up being the dream home you can’t pass up!
